English Setters now in Band "D"
A recent announcement in the Kennel Club Gazette has confirmed that English Setters will be moved from Band "E" to Band "D" with effect from the beginning of January 2004. This is as a result of the drop in entries at championship shows where CCs are on offer. The Kennel Club calculate the average entry over the preceding 3 year period and use this to determine an appropriate Band.
This change has implications in a number of areas. One implication is the qualification for a Stud Book number. In Band "D", it is only CC winners, Reserve CC winners, 1st-3rd in the Open class or 1st in the Limit class (at championship shows) which will qualify for a Stud Book number.
Another impact relates to the judging of the breed at Open Shows. As the breed are now in Band "D", an Open Show judge must be on the "B" List or higher in order to be able to judge more than 3 breed classes, rather than the 5 classes which applied when English Setters were in Band "E".
